Love Your Neighbor As Yourself...
“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
That’s a pretty strong statement there: “no other commandment is greater”. This verse says three things:
Love God with all of your heart.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Why did I put love yourself before loving your neighbor? Because how can you love your neighbor as yourself if you don’t love yourself. Or better yet, imagine treating your neighbor the way that you treat yourself. For some of us, that means our neighbor would be treated pretty harshly. Loving your neighbor comes AFTER you learn to love yourself. You must first love the you that you are, so then you can show love to those around you.
You are worthy of love where you are right now. With all of your flaws and messes, you are LOVED. Let God come and make something beautiful out of you. And then, show the people around you the love that you have found.
Ways to show yourself love:
Spend time each day in prayer and reading the bible. Your identity is found in the word of God.
Speak kind words to yourself.
Take yourself on a date. Just you and God.
Ways to show others that they are loved:
Send a sweet encouraging note in the mail.
Bake/Make your friend, neighbor, or family your favorite sweet treat.
Have someone over for coffee and let them talk.
Spread the love today and everyday. Love God. Love yourself. And love your neighbor.
You are LOVED,
